  • Alternanthera reineckii var. 'roseafolia' is a very decorative "red" plant. Alternanthera reineckii has a bronze color on top of the leaf and the deep purple colored underside of the leaf. Alternanthera reineckii offers a nice contrast to the mostly green plants in an aquarium. Although most red aquarium plants are somewhat difficult to grow in an aquarium, Alternanthera reineckii is relatively easy. With adequate light and fertilizer Alternanthera reineckii grows vigorously and with good color and adding CO2 will make these plants bright red.

  • Anacharis is a vigorous grower with branchlets that easily break off from the parent plant to form new plants. Anacharis feeds primarily through its stems. The plant can produce roots to anchor itself, but it is not necessary that it be planted. It can simply be weighted and dropped into the aquarium or pond since soil is not really necessary for their survival.

  • Anubias barteri , also known as Anubius or Anubias barteri, is a hardy plant that has lush green arrow shaped foliage. This rosette plant may reach up to 16 inches in width and has thick, creeping rhizomes. This variety of Anubias barteri is an amphibious form that will survive either totally or partially submersed. Anubias prefers moderate lighting, approximately 2 to 3 watts per gallon provided by a fluorescent fixture with daylight bulbs (5000-7000°K). A pH of 6.5 to 7.5 is ideal, and is best maintained with an alkalinity of 3 to 7 dKH. When planting the aquatic plant, take special care of the rhizome and the roots. A quality substrate fertilizer is necessary, and CO2 fertilization is also recommended. In order to keep these plants small, simply trim back the leaves near the rhizome with a sharp pair of scissors. Because it grows well from cuttings, you can usually propogate it easily. Under correct water conditions, the Anubias barteri round leaf propagates by side shoots on the rhizome, causing rhizome division. It attaches itself to rocks, driftwood, substrate, and may even float. Approximate Shipping Size: Potted and Bare root 3" to 5"

Anubia coffeefolia boasts large, heavily ridged leaves to dress any aquascape. Like other members of the Anubias species, this variety is slow growing and an ideal mid-ground plant. It is hardy and undemanding with robust growth under ideal conditions. Juvenile forms of the plant often have reddish brown leaves. However, as the plant matures, the leaf color changes to a dark, vibrant green and serves as the perfect aquarium accent plant. Native to the tropical regions of Africa, these flowering plant species are primarily found in rivers, streams, and marshes. Anubias plants are ideal when planted in substrate or placed on harder surfaces, such as rocks or driftwood. They have medium light requirements but need regular fertilization with iron-based supplements for optimal growth. Interestingly, most Anubias plants do not respond to CO2 supplementation. Considered a slow grower, members of the Anubias genus should not be placed in high light areas of your system to help prevent excessive algae growth on the leaves. Overall, however, Anubias coffeefolia is very adaptable to a wide range of pH, water hardness, and lighting conditions. Most herbivorous fish also tend to leave Anubias plants alone, which makes them great additions to any freshwater system, especially cichlid and goldfish aquariums. Propagation is relative easy with cuttings. To ensure optimal growth if planted in substrate, however, ensure the rhizome of divided plants is always above the substrate. Plants can also be grown emersed, which also makes them an ideal plant for paludariums or terrariums. Approximate Purchase Size: Potted 2" to 4"
